Charles Rudolph “Buster” Owens (2026) – Atlanta, GA Death: Charles Rudolph “Buster” Owens lived a life defined by kindness, loyalty, and an unwavering love for family, faith, and Auburn University. His warm personality, sense of humor, and dedication to those around him left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Mr. Owens passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, friendship, and community involvement.
A native of Sylacauga, Alabama, Owens earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Economics from Auburn University. Affectionately nicknamed “Buster” from the day he was born, he later adopted the name “Charlie” professionally after beginning his career in the marketing department at BP Oil Company in Atlanta.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force Reserves, where his duties included postal operations, a role he often recalled with his trademark humor. Throughout his career, he worked in the Purchasing Department of the Atlanta Journal and the Atlanta Constitution before founding his own marketing and sales company in the packaging industry.
Owens was deeply devoted to Auburn University, serving as a past president of the Atlanta Auburn Alumni Club, maintaining lifetime membership in the Auburn University National Alumni Association, and supporting Auburn athletics through Tigers Unlimited. A football season ticket holder for 48 years, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Tigers.
A faithful member of Peachtree Road Presbyterian Church, he also found joy in gardening and caring for his yard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Collie Rudolph and Clara Audrey Johnston Owens; his siblings Lenora Owens and Donald Franklin Owens; his wife, Janice Tucker Owens; and his brother-in-law, Brown Motes. He is survived by his sisters, Peggy Owens Blanchard and Deborah Owens Motes, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
Graveside services are scheduled for July 8, 2026, at Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga, Alabama, with arrangements entrusted to Curtis and Son Funeral Home. Charles Rudolph “Buster” Owens will be remembered for his generous spirit, steadfast faith, and the countless lives he enriched through friendship, service, and enduring love.
