According to the Mesa Police Department, the shooting was an isolated incident involving two individuals. The victim suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital, where officials later said the person remained in critical but stable condition.
Police arrested 21-year-old Dylan Stinson, who was booked on multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault causing serious injury, and unlawful discharge of a firearm. Court documents allege the confrontation occurred near the store’s restroom area and involved an AR-15-style rifle. Investigators recovered evidence at the scene as they continued piecing together the events leading up to the shooting.
A second person initially detained during the investigation was later released without charges. Police emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the public, and the Target store was temporarily closed while detectives processed the scene.
